Grieg concert

concert hall

Every day at 1:00 p.m., a pianist plays a half-hour concert of Edvard Grieg’s music at Troldhuagen, the composer’s home on the outskirts of Bergen, Norway. Through the concert hall window one sees the hut where Grieg worked and a fjord beyond that.

Pianist Christian Grovlen performed on the day we visited. You can see the program he played here: Christian Grovlen program and learn more about him here: The Instagram site has videos of him practicing at home, which are fun to watch.

Grovlen made comments to the audience between the pieces he played on the concert. I like what he said about “To Spring,” his second piece on the program: “Grieg is describing the arrival of spring but there is a hint of Norwegian cold.”
