Detailed

Last week, I had my 2007 Toyota Highlander detailed for the first time. The detailer did a fantastic job except for one thing: As I drove away from his shop in my gleaming, like-new car, I discovered he had tuned my radio to a conservative political talk show and had erased my preset for public radio. Immediately, I thought He did this on purpose to send me a message! Mentally, I composed what I would say if he asked me for a review.

When I arrived home, our house cleaner had finished her work and was about to leave. I asked her how she was doing, and she said she was hot and tired—the first time she had ever complained. I checked the thermostat. Sure enough, I had forgotten to switch it from Heat to Cool that morning before she arrived.

Everybody makes mistakes, I thought, and that includes the detailer. He must have listened to the talk show to entertain himself while he worked, and he would have erased my preset unintentionally when he disconnected the battery to clean the engine compartment.

I’m glad I didn’t complain about the radio. I’ll be a return customer the next time I crave a new car.

  1. I have tried to leave a comment several times (unsuccessfully), let my just say this is a great post. I have more to say, but I’ve wasted too much time on WordPress BS security and will try to say more later.
